I am so excited to find the Irish connecction to the McGilligan family. I have done a lot of research in Scotland, and just starting in Scotland. Could you direct me to the sites that have information on these families. Enjoyed your great pictures.
Thanks

Hi Marion

Dad's brother emigrated to Canada in the 1960's to Edmonton I think. He was a minister. Lewis and Greta warke. (Both now deceased) They had 5 children, Gibson,Trevor,Brenda,Alberta and Lewis. My cousins still live in Canada although I know one has sadly passed away. Unfortunately I am not in contact with them but one of the sons did send dad a musical CD they had made. I also know that it was a small inheritance that enabled my parents to come to Bournemouth on holiday where I met my now husband 1972. So I have a lot to thank the Elders for. Hope this is useful.
Good luck with your search, I know just how time consuming it can be.
Regards Heather

Hi my family name is Gilmour- my grandparents & 3-4 previous generations are buried at Aghadowey Presbyterian Church. I was there a few weeks ago- I live 1 hours drive away. It was and is still common in Northern Ireland to use Maternal Surnames as first names- My brother is Kyle- from my grandmother.
In Aghadowey there are many Gilmour & Gilmore graves. Barr & Elder are also common names in the Coleraine/ Limavady area- I know many!

A correction to my earlier comment: New data indicate that my Jane Hughes (who married James Robb c. 1856, and whose son, John Robb, married in 1884 at the Ballyarnett Presbyterian Church in Templemore Parish, Londonderry) was actually born in 1831, not in 1835. We have no information about her parents or siblings.

..."Presbyterians witnessing the reformed faith in the area had sought to form a congregation from as early as 1792, and Newtowncunningham's Presbyterian Church was finally formed in 1830. The Church building was built in one year by voluntary labour. Newtowncunningham Presbyterian Church was united with Crossroads from 1957 until 1974 and is now united with Ray. The Rev. Nigel D. Craig is the current minister and membership stands at about sixty-five families."

Neil,

I do not know the location of the old Presbyterian church at Newtowncunningham. Once I return from my holidays I will try to locate it.

Thanks for posting your question to Elder-McGilligan.com.

Dear sir,
this is not really a comment, i'm looking for information
on the Presbyterian Church in Newtowncunningham, i'm aware
that the present church building was erected in 1881.
What i want to know is the location of the old building.
Was there a Presbyterian Church building in Newtowncunningham
in or around 1800-1850, and if so,what was its location.

Yours sincerly.

Neil McDaid.
