Hi my family name is Gilmour- my grandparents & 3-4 previous generations are buried at Aghadowey Presbyterian Church. I was there a few weeks ago- I live 1 hours drive away. It was and is still common in Northern Ireland to use Maternal Surnames as first names- My brother is Kyle- from my grandmother.
In Aghadowey there are many Gilmour & Gilmore graves. Barr & Elder are also common names in the Coleraine/ Limavady area- I know many!
Gilmore is my Grandmother’s maiden name. My g g g grandparents John and Letitia Gilmour are also buried in Aghadowey Presbyterian Church Cemetery marker #162 along with their children John and Annie Jane. Their other daughter, Letitia is buried at marker #225 with her husband, Samuel Dallas. John & Letitia’s oldest son, Archibald (my g g grandpa) came to New York in about 1847 before he was 15. The spelling was changed from Gilmour to Gilmore. Are you related to any of those Gilmour’s?
